Delta Force 2
and its sequel Delta Force: Land Warrior take the high-tech
gaming engines that run them to an all new level. Both of
these games keep the interests of old school gamers as well
as attracting new ones by presenting a high level of gaming
that has not been seen in a long time. They keep the feeling
of the original 1st person shoot'em up, blow'em up game in
Doom and incorporate that with the latest technology. No longer
are the walls of a building boxy and look fake. They have been
refined for that all realistic look. The smoothness of both
games is amazing. Sure sometimes there are a few quirks in the
graphics here and there, but you will always have that with
any game. When you look to buy a game now days, you look for two
things: graphics and playability. The graphics for the Delta
Force family are fantastic and keep getting better. The upgrade
in the quality of graphics just from DF2 and DF:LW is easily
distinguishable.

You can play both of these games either alone and play quick missions
or campaigns, or you can take the game to the next level and play it
online with other people being the target of your anger. This style
of play has become so popular and is constantly growing: it's impossible
to ignore what is happening here in the gaming industry. Groups of
friends join in together playing on the same server and have their
own so-called "squad" that shows that they play together as a team.
Most teams signify the name of their squad by putting the squad name
at the end of their name. For example, one name could be killer.
The player's name is killer and his squad name is , which is usually
an acronym for something.
One squad that really caught my attention is a squad called team ,
which stands for united states leading forces. What surprised me is the
speed of growth of this squad of players from all over the world. In less
than one year, team has become a tight-knit group of players
representing multi-cultures and countries that span the globe. Team
has roughly 60+ members in their ranks and grows daily. The age of the
players range from age 6 to 55. The foundation of their squad has over
75 years of combined experience in the technology world, boasts a microsoft
regional director as one of their members, and is made up of a large number
of veterans and current members of armed forces around the world.
The backgrounds of the members range from a paperboy to a decorated gulf
war veteran, to a former police officer to a semi-pro football player.
They have 4 map servers that are on novaworld that allows people to use
their maps and shoot the breeze as well as each other for a few hours.
They have a very well done website, which can be viewed at www.teamuslf.com.
The members of the squad communicate through an email server that they have
setup that runs microsoft exchange server. They offer what they call uslf
bootcamp or , which is a training program that is directed by drill
sergeants that train new recruits on the arts of this ongoing online war.
The newest feature on their website is an internet radio station called
uslf radio. They play mp3s as well as have members send in sound bites to
be used as online djs.
The overall atmosphere for this squad is very friendly. They all seem to have
both a sense of reality, knowing that what they are doing is playing a game,
yet at the same time they have a sense of humor while they play, as well as a
sense of urgency to represent their squad to the best of their ability.
This is a very well put together squad and in my humble opinion, deserves more
than just a quick look. They have other benefits as well...but you'll only find
out what those are if you go through and you're accepted ;-)
In summary, the latest delta force games (delta force 2 and land warrior) set
the standard for realistic squad based online gaming. Tribes 2 may have drawn all
the hype lately, but if you want to experience true squad based action that will
actually run on your less than super human pc, then you must check out Delta Force 2
and Delta Force: Land Warrior.
