Empire Earth is a massive 3D Real-Time Strategy
(RTS) game designed for experienced RTS players. If you're a veteran Starcraft, Warcraft,
Age of Empires, Age of Kings (designed and developed by some of the same team) and other RTS
games player who loves to struggle with complex issues of resource management, unit management,
tech tree and strategy then how about doing it in a game that spans over 500,000 years of
human conflict from a stone age rock thrower to a musket wielding napoleonic warfare to a
nano-age cyber giant robot? If you’re an Age of Empires (AoE) fan then you should know that
this game comes from Rick Goodman, the lead designer of the original AoE.
The game has a simple tutorial and interesting campaigns that cover the ancient Greeks, medieval
British, WWI era

Germans and futuristic Russians. The ultimate
way to play Empire Earth is random map multiplayer either against human opponent or computer. Unlike other RTS games however, the computer A.I. is insanely well developed and will kick
even the ass of an experienced RTS player. Inexperienced RTS players will no doubt will be
seriously intimidated by the computer A.I. and completely overwhelmed by the game's massive
number of units (about 200 in all) and buildings.
Empire Earth shares numerous similarities to Age of Kings because both are from the same game
designer. The controls, graphics, and features such as idle worker, rally point, unit que
and building que (etc) are the same but the sound effects are in a league of their own.
The thunderous sound effect of siege weapons will make you wanna look for cover, the rattling
sound of machine guns are terrifying, and even the sound of infantry's rifles or smashing swords
is very impressive.
As in Age of Kings, there are Priests and Prophets in the game that can convert enemy units
and cast calamities such as a plague or a tornado. There are also warrior heroes but there
are also strategic heroes that increase the morale of your troops which makes them fight better.
Houses, temples, and universities also increase your troops morale and temple can even shield
your unit from enemy priests and prophets.
There are numerous options in how you want to play in multiplayer mode. The standard mode
is best for playing thru a period of one or two epochs while tournament mode is great for
playing thru many more epochs. A really nice feature is that you can change the number of
starting civilians for each player thus allowing the game to set a handicap for players of
different skill level. If you're going up against the computer in multiplayer for the first
time, I highly recommend you set your own starting civilians to 20 and the computer to 1,
trust me, you're gonna need it. Just like Age of Kings, each civilization offers different
civilization bonuses and you can even create your own civilization, upgrading however is a
real pain because all upgrades are done thru the units themselves rather than from structure.
In conclusion, Empire Earth is a great game with a lot of depth for experienced RTS players.
The replayability value is high but expect to put a lot of time into it before you get the
hang of it.
