NHL Hitz 2002 is like the late,
great NBA Jams meets NHL 2001. This is an awesome hockey game, in that it is highly
customizable. The graphics are very realistic, very life like. The crowd is interactive
as well. If you’re the home team and getting your ass kicked, they will leave. If you
are wiping the floor with the other team, the crowd goes nuts! The setup for the game
is 3-on-3, with no penalties. You can, however, fight, which definitely adds to the
game. What kind of hockey game would it be without fighting??? That is like women mud
wrestling without the mud. Its cool, but just not the same. If you happen to get your
ass kicked and lose a fight, the player that you were using is out for the remainder
of the game. I like this feature because you actually do have something to lose if you
lose the fight, aside from your dignity. This adds another dimension to |

the game,
because you don’t want your 3 number one players to be replaced with 3 backups now do
you?? Of course not!! A good strategy to beat your opponent is to pick fights with your
opponents best player, and win that fight! Once a player scores 3 goals ( also known as
a hat-trick) the player is on fire (reminiscent of the good ol’ days of NBA Jams where
you get on a roll and everything you shoot goes in and scorches the net...*siiiigh* ),
which makes his shots and hits on other players stronger. In a way, it rewards you for
doing good ;-) just like a good game should! Another cool aspect of the game that hockey
fans will love is slamming someone through the glass and into the stands. Talk about an
adrenaline rush!
The controls of the game are very easy to use, and very easy to learn. For a non-hockey
player, all it takes is a couple games and you are doing awesome. For someone that plays
a lot of hockey games, it’s a lot like games like nhl 2002. If you play franchise games,
you earn attribute points which can be used to boost up your custom team that you have
ball making. After each game, you can also answer a trivia question (hockey related) and
if you get it right, you get credits that you can spend in the hockey shop to buy awesome
stadiums, such as a stadium that is under a shark tank, a stadium that is on a pirate ship,
a stadium located in a graveyard, a moonbase stadium and so much more! You can also buy
awesome teams such as the snowmen, every kind of Jersey you can remember, including all of
the old school Jerseys from times past, and other cool stuff. Another cool thing is that
you can trade your players on your custom team for your favorite players in the NHL,
which rocks because you can essentially create the ultimate team you’ve been dreaming about.
Something that you should know though is that you can not change anything about the real
players you have obtained. This makes a lot of sense to me because they are pre-configured
players. That’s fine though, because I really like to create my own custom players that are
massive shaq type look-alikes that top 300 pounds and are at least 7 feet tall! If you
play enough franchise games and get a lot of attribute points, you can make your custom
players better that the best NHL players. When you play exhibition games or championship games,
you earn credits. When you are watching the replays of goals, the audience will hold up codes
that will let you do cool stuff like unlimited turbo, your player will have a huge head,
you can see how fast your shots are with the addition of a cool radar gun, and snow in
the stadium. You can learn more about the codes in the instruction manual. The commentator
is fricking hilarious! If you’re a big fan of sports games in general or not, it won’t matter.
You will love this game. Trust me on this. I don’t steer fellow gamers astray. I give it
5 out of 5 planets, because the graphics are awesome, the gameplay and sound rocks, and
I think it just plain kicks ass!
