When I first received
word that this release had been shipped I was ecstatic. I was
ecstatic because I had admired their debut release from every
aspect, in fact I would venture out on a limb to claim that
their debut was one of my favorite releases of that particular
year (2000). With that in mind I had heavy expectations for
"So Happily Unsatisfied". When the shipment arrived in the
mail I eagerly tore open the package and immediately loaded my
CD player. I quickly sampled the discs entirety, listening to
45 - 60 seconds of each track before skipping ahead to the
next. To my dismay the album simply wasn't very good (from
first glance).
Since that I time I have been playing it, playing it, and
replaying it to get a better feel for the overall product. The
album as a whole seems very bland, but tends to grow on the
listener. While the first album was filled with zany lyrics,
and sing-able choruses their new approach is filled with a
more mature set of lyrics (also possessing the 'sing
ability'). Their style still shows massive potential, but
their execution was somewhat disappointing. While I did find
many dim spots I did manage to find a silver lining. For
example, some of their tracks really carried over their
one-of-a-kind style almost enough to pull this compilation
from the rut that it became buried in. And their lyrical style
has grown into a style filled with emotion and desire; emotion
to allow their listeners to relate and desire to exhibit their
true love for making music.
All-in-all this album is pretty good, but it fell short of the
expectations that I had laid down for it. My overall ratings
are based on this album and nothing else; I have left out any
bias that I may have acquired. Of course this album isn't for
everyone; it will satisfy quite a few listeners out there. I
suggest you download a track or two in order to get a feel.
This is not an album to risk your money on, so play it smart:
